Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer visits the Diamond Exchange

In the course of his visit, Prof. Fischer gave a presentation on the Israeli economy and the economy of the world's markets before hundreds of Israel Diamond Exchange members at the Economic-Social Club of the Exchange.
Bank of Israel Governor Prof. Stanley Fischer's visit at the Israel Diamond Exchange took place last Thursday (17 May 2012). Governor Fischer was accompanied by his deputy - Dr. Karnit Flug, head of the research department - Prof. Nathan Sussman, bank supervisor – Mr. David Zaken, senior advisor to the governor – Mr. Barry Topf and chief of staff to the governor – Mr. Eddy Azoulay.
During his visit, Governor Fischer and his team met with the President of the Israel Diamond Exchange – Mr. Yair Sahar, the President of the Israel Diamond Exchange Enterprises – Mr. Bumi Traub, Chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute – Mr. Moti Ganz, CEO of the Israel Diamond Exchange – Mr. Moti Besser, and other industry executives.
The governor was presented with a broad overview of the Israel Diamond Industry which included data regarding the prominent role played by the Israel Diamond Industry in Israel's economy, Israel's diamond export industry, the role played by the banking system which accompanies the ongoing business operations of the Diamond Industry and suggestions for growing the industry's turnover and scope of activity. Following the overview, the governor toured the trading floors of the Exchange, stopped at a diamond polishing workshop and visited the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum.

At the end of the professional part of the visit, Prof. Fischer gave a lecture at the Economic-Social Club before hundreds of members of the Diamond Exchange. The topic of the lecture was the Israeli economy and the economic state of the world's markets.
 
The visit of the Bank of Israel governor at the Diamond Exchange is only part of extensive activities sponsored of the Diamond Exchange's management led by President Yair Sahar to improve the relationship of the Diamond Exchange with representatives of the government and for promoting cooperation between the Israel Diamond Exchange and other state entities. A week ago, Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor – Mr. Shalom Simhon – visited the Diamond Exchange. In previous weeks, Diamond Exchange President Yair Sahar met with the Minister of Education – Mr. Gideon Sa'ar – and Minister of Environmental Protection – Mr. Gilad Erdan.
