Turkey Starts Official Diamond Trading In Istanbul

Up to now, only unregistered and illegally imported stones have been available.

Turkey says that diamond trading has started on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

The value of trading was just $284,000, according to the Turkish precious metal producers association.

The first trading transaction was made by the head of the precious metal producers association, Ayhan Guner, the organization said in a statement.

Guner said that there is no tax on members of the Istanbul Stock Exchange involved in diamond trading, which will lead to for registered diamond transactions.

Jewelry manufacturers in the country will now have access to legally bought stones with international certificates, he said, Bloomberg reported.
